4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements
specified herein are classified as follows:
(a) First article inspection (see 4.3)
(b) Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4)
4.3 First article inspection. First article inspection shall be
performed on the submitted samples as specified in 4.3.1. First
article inspection shall consist of the examination and tests of
this specification (see 4.5 and 4.6). First article samples
shall be forwarded to the Commander, David Taylor Naval Research
Center, Attn: Code 2843, Annapolis, MD 21402. The samples shall
be plainly identified by securely-attached durable tags marked
with the following information:
(a) Samples for first article tests.
(b) Name of product, together with complete identifying
information, such as manufacturers designation number.
(c) Name of manufacturer.
(d) Contract or order number.

shall submit the following samples representing normal
reduction:
(a)
Three complete life preservers
(b)
TWO square yards of each type of cloth used
(c)
Three yards of each type of tape and webbing used
(d)
Two complete sets of buoyant pads
(e)
TWO sets of all hardware used
(f)
One cone of each type thread used
Three sets of each length of slide fasteners.

4.4 Qual ity conform ante inspection. Quality conformance
inspection shall consist of the inspections and tests shown in
Table II.
