4.6.4 Buoyancy te st.
The completed front and collar pads,
shall be individually subjected to buoyancy tests.
In this test,
the pad shall be placed in a cage of adequate size and sufficient
weight to submerge the pad to show compliance with 3.3.4.
This
assembly shall be suspended from a direct reading scale, in fresh
water, at room temperature, with the top of the cage 2 inches
beneath the surface of the water. The scale reading shall be
taken as soon as practicable, and the buoyancy calculated as the
apparent weight of the cage and pad subtracted from the previously
determined undewater weight of the assembly without the pad.
4.7 Ma terials testing.
Material certifications or material tests
results shall be maintained to establish identify and traceability
of materials used for each component listed in 3.2.
4.8 Inspection of Packaging.
Sample packages and packs, and the
inspection of the preservation-packaging, packing and marking for
shipment and storage shall be in accordance with the requirements
of section 5 and the documents specified therein.
5.
PACKAGING
(The packaging requirements specified herein apply only for
direct government acquisition.)
5.1 Life preservers shall be packaged by level A or C, packed by
level A, B, or C, and marked in accordance with MIL-P-3454 as
specified (see 6.2) .

NOTES

6.1 Intended use.
Life preservers made in accordance with this
specification are used by pack-carrying troops in amphibious
operations.
It can be removed by one hand without affecting the back
pack.
