4.5.5 Inlet check valve. If an inlet check valve is specified for a test, it shall conform to AF
Drawing 76227.
4.5.6 Container charge. Unless otherwise specified herein, each inflation medium container shall
be charged with 0.5, +0.01, 0.02, lbs of inflating medium.

Tests.
4.6.1 Visual Examination. An inflation device shall be examined to determine compliance with
materials, components, compatibility, screw threads, coupler, parts removal, identification, and
interchangeability requirements.
4.6.2 Leakage. When exposed to temperatures of 65, +70, and +160 °F for a seven day
period, a charged inflation device shall have no loss in weight. A scale accurate to at least 0.002
lbs shall be used to weigh the inflation devices.
4.6.3 Weight. The weight of the charged inflation device (less diffuser) shall not exceed 2.01 lb.
A scale accurate to at least 0.002 lbs shall be used to weigh the inflation device.
4.6.4 Leakage at 70 °F.
4.6.4.1 Single closed position. With the transfer assembly in the closed position, an inflation
device and a collection device shall be submerged in water maintained at a temperature of
70 ± 5 °F. The submerged inflation device shall be held stationary, in a vertical position, and
temperature stabilized for a minimum of 30 minutes. There shall be no leakage from the transfer
assembly into the collection device.
4.6.4.2 Both closed positions (cam head design). If a cam head design is used, the inflation
device shall be tested twice as described in 4.6.4.1, except as follows: the transfer assembly shall
be cocked on one end of the two opposite flats on the cam head during the first test, and on the
other end of the cam head flat during the second test. There shall be no leakage from the transfer
assembly into the collection device during either test.
4.6.5 Leakage at 160 °F. With the transfer assembly in the closed position, an inflation device
and a collection device shall be held stationary in a vertical position and submerged in water
heated to and maintained at a temperature of 160 ± 5 °F for a minimum of 30 minutes. There shall
be no leakage from the transfer assembly into the collection device.
4.6.6 Leakage at 65 °F. With the inflation medium container removed from the transfer
assembly, a closed transfer assembly and a collection device shall be submerged in a non-freezing
liquid chilled to a temperature of 65 ± 5 °F. The transfer assembly shall be held stationary in the
vertical position. After the transfer assembly has been temperature stabilized at 65 ± 5 °F for at
least 30 minutes, it shall be pressurized with nitrogen gas to at least 1,000 psig, applied to the
inlet of the closed transfer assembly. The source of the nitrogen gas shall be shut off and the
