Breaking Strength of the Lanyards
Preparation for Delivery
Sampling.
4.4.1
Inspection lot. The inspection lot size shall

be expressed in units of one beaded handle made from the same
material and under the same conditions. The sample unit shall be
one beaded handle.
Preparation for delivery. The inspection lot

size shall be expressed in units of one fully prepared shipping
container, containing one type of beaded handle. The sample unit
shall be one shipping container fully prepared for delivery except
that it need not be sealed.
Inspection methods. The inspection methods,

sample size and acceptance criteria shall conform to Table I.
Visual examinations, Each beaded handle shall

be examined for critical defects to determine conformance to this
specification. Each beaded handle, selected as a sample unit from a
lot, shall be examined visually for minor defects to determine
conformance to this specification. The classification and list of
defects, Table II, shall be used to classify and enumerate the
defects found.
Dimensional examination, Each of the beaded

handles selected as a sample unit from the lot, shall be thoroughly
checked dimensionally by use of any suitable measuring device to
determine conformance to this specification. The list of defects,
Table II', shall be used to enumerate the defects found.
Breaking strength of the lanyards. The breaking

strength of the lanyard shall be determined by testing in a suitable
inspection apparatus with a no-load speed of 12 + 1/2 inches per
minute. The test will be completed when failure occurs, The
inspection apparatus shall have jaws to secure the webbing of the
beaded handle and a 1/2 inch diameter mandrel for the lanyard. The
jaws shall grasp the beaded handle webbing at the end opposite the
975AS121-2 lanyard. For the Type I handles, only the lanyard under
test shall be looped on the mandrel, and neither the releasing pin,
over-hand knot nor lark's head knot will be installed on the
975AS121-5 lanyard. Test results shall conform to requirements set
forth in Table III.
Preparation for delivery. Each of the fully

prepared shipping containers shall be visually examined to determine
that the packaging, packing, and marking conform to this specifica-
tion. The list of defects, Table II, shall be used to classify and
enumerate defects.
